Thank you for your question. Yes, there is used WPML and its modules like Translation management, String Translation, etc in Villagio demo. We recommend to use WPML to create site with Hotel Booking plugin as it has been tested.

Is there a way to add the WPML language switcher in the mobile version of the theme on top of the page instead as a line in the menu?

Hi,

You may refer to WPML guide to learn how to add language switchers to custom locations.
Thus you may install child theme (it should be available in your MotoPress account) and activate it. Then copy header.php file from parent theme folder to child folder and edit it adding PHP action from the guide above.
