ParticipantIs it possible to charge a deposit amount on the accommodation total only and not the total price?
It’s a problem for me charging guests including the accommodation + fees as the fee is a refundable damage deposit and shouldn’t really be part of the total.

KeymasterHi Paul,
Thanks for your reply. You can try adding a damage deposit as an Accommodation Tax. There are no other options, at the moment.December 5, 2024 at 5:10 am #1701322Léane Rondel
ParticipantHello,
Are you planning to develop this function?
Thanks

ParticipantI’ll second the need for a refundable damage/security deposit. VRBO, Airbnb, and other listing sites offer refundable security deposits.

ParticipantWe would like to see a good working “deposit” solution as well. Specially if the accomodation is a bit farhter away, otherwise we could ask a deposit in “cash”.
Thanks

ParticipantI agree, and I suggest to make it possible so that a deposit is worth 1 month (or other period) of the per-night price to have some flexibility there.

KeymasterHi Ignacio,
Do you mean the available Deposit amount settings that are configured at Accommodation > Settings > Payment gateways? Or do you need a separate solution for the Security Damage Deposit? Could you describe it in more detail?July 18, 2026 at 12:29 am #1857554Daniela Kuijpers
ParticipantYes,
we need a separate solution for the Security Damage Deposit pleaseJuly 20, 2026 at 12:29 pm #1858078J. Davis
KeymasterHi Daniela,
Could you please provide more information on exactly how you want the Security Damage Deposit to work?July 21, 2026 at 10:14 am #1858295Daniela Kuijpers
ParticipantHi yes,
the moment people make a reservation, it would be nice to also have them “pay” a deposit, as a separate line item om the invoice, to cover for the things the guest break during their stay.
The amount should be entered by the (business)owners individually of course in their own currency.
Then after the guest have left again, the “deposit” should be returned to the guest in full, when all the things are in good shape, or partially .. when things were found broken or damaged.
The catch here is the return of the “full deposit” as payment systems, like Paypal, Stripe or credit-card companies charge fees for handling.
(A partial refund makes it easier to “hide” the charges….. )So..when a guest has put in a deposit of 100 Euro for example, they should get 100 Euro back into their account when all is A-ok.
Fees should not be subtracted.Do this answer your question?
Let me know

ParticipantIn my view, the system described by Daniela creates a mountain of difficulties.
For example:
– The system can only work if we take a credit card authorization. Otherwise, it means that HB has access to a bank account or equivalent—the risk is enormous.
– How do we collect and refund payments when the payment was made via bank transfer or Paypal ?
– Collecting the security deposit requires accounting entries
– If we ask Stripe to take a credit card authorization, it’s only valid for a few days, so this is problematic for long stays
– In the case of a large security deposit, will the Guest have the funds available in their account, and will he be willing to pay it?
– Etc.A solution that integrates with a partner specializing in security deposits, such as “Swikly” or “Tyllt”, would, in my opinion, be the best solution

ParticipantDifficulty or challenges….?
The easy way out could be…..
The deposit functionality is being created with the reservation system and the landlord/business owner does the refund manually from his/her financial(bank)-account to the account of the guests..?This way Motopress can buy time to work on an integration with the likes of Swikly” or “Tyllt”….. or any other solution that might come around.

ParticipantWould you like to save your travelers’ banking information?!!!
I would never give my bank details to anyone other than payment gateways or a bank. I would never give them to a website that would store this informations.
There are countless websites that have had their customers’ details stolen - AuthorPosts
