ParticipantIn Europe, it is quite accepted to send the bankaccount-number (IBAN) and name to a person to send money into that account.
Or…. send a payment URL to request a money transfer.I guess the European banking system good ways to keep thing secure…

ParticipantSharing my IBAN with ONE person – I’d do that
If you ask your guests to provide their IBAN via an automated process on your website … then this IBAN would be stored ‘online’ in your WordPress database
Sharing my IBAN with a website of unknown security standards, which will store it online for future use indefinitely… NEVER
Let’s take the example of Free (an ISP and mobile network operator). A company far more vulnerable to cyberattacks than our websites : 5.1 million IBANs and other personal details were stolen by hackers

True, but when we ask that later in a 1:1 conversation (of some sort) that info does not need to be stored on the website.
BTW : have a look on EU sites in general, banking information is published quite often as the banking systems in the EU are more secure than the US apparently… with 2FA etc etc
