Changing the default URL structure

by default the page URL will look something like below
timetable/event/myevent/
timetable/column/tuesday/

How can I remove the “event” and “column” path to look like
timetable/myevent
timetable/tuesday

or can it be changed to a different word to look like
timetable/class/myevent
timetable/day/tuesday
